MapiviThis is a featured page

Open-source and cross-platform (UNIX, Linux, Mac OS X and Windows) picture manager / organizer.

Homepage: mapivi.sourceforge.net

The idea of using Mapivi as an picture manager is to keep the information where they belong to - in the pictures. When you add captions, copyright information, keywords, etc. to a picture this meta information is stored in two places:
  • in the picture file as IPTC data and
  • in a database of Mapivi to allow fast searches
The distributed storage is very handy as backup becomes very easy and consistent and the information stays with the pictures even if you send your pictures by email or if they are downloaded from a website. Another big benefit of this approach is that you are not bound to any
software or operating system. You can switch anytime to another
archiving-software as long as it supports the IPTC and EXIF standards.
