MainConcepts proprietary video editing software is probably the most professional solution for Linux. The only problem is that it doesn't import any other format than MPEG 1-2 or DV-AVI. That however is a minor issue compared to the features, stability and ease of use. The pricetag of $199 is cheap(ish) compared to its Windows or OSX competitors.
